The P6 and P7 classes enjoyed a day out to the Ulster Museum yesterday, where they were able to take part in a Science Show called 'Lotions and Potions.'  This was held as part of the Northern Ireland Science Festival, and the children learned about different types of chemicals and the resulting reactions when they are mixed together.
  • School Meals

    Fri 10 Feb 2017
Mrs S Bolton, our School Cook, will be off for the next month. This will mean a change to our dinner menu and the preparation of meals. For this period of time the meals will be prepared in Kilkeel Central Kitchen, and will be brought up to school each day to be served by our own staff.  As a result there has been a change to the February menu, and the updated version can be viewed in the 'Parents' section of the website.  We apologise for any inconvenience, but hope that this will only be a temporary arrangement.
  • Champions!

    Thu 09 Feb 2017

The boys football team have won the Mourne Indoor 5-a-side tournament! They had to beat Grange, Moneydarragh, Killowen, Kilbroney and St Joseph's PS to reach the final, where they then had to play Annalong PS.

We eventually won a very closely fought final by two goals to nil. Congratulations to Ben, Rhys, Matthew, Callum, Jackson, Aaron, Charlie & Luke. Well done to the team on a great achievement!

  • Football Tournament

    Fri 20 Jan 2017

Our football team performed very well at this week's South Down Indoor 5-a-side tournament, held at Kilkeel Leisure Centre. The boys , played a total of 6 games, with a final record of 4 wins (v Annalong, Bronte, St Marys Newcastle and Iveagh), 1 draw (v Kilkeel PS) and 1 defeat.

They were only beaten by the eventual winners, St Mary's (Banbridge) and finished 3rd overall. This was a tremendous performance against some very strong opposition. Well done boys!

  • Exceptional Closures Policy

    Fri 13 Jan 2017

Occasionally we have had to close the school due to snow and ice, and I want to remind you on what basis such decisions are taken. Any exceptional closure such as this is unplanned, and is only due to unforeseen circumstances such as adverse weather conditions, power failure, or situations which affect the safety of pupils and staff.

Full information can be found in the 'Policies' section on the school website, under the heading entitled ‘Key Information’. I am hopeful that this will not be an issue this year, but as snow is often forecast throughout the winter months I thought it would be good to remind you of our procedures should the situation arise.

  • School Achievement Recognised

    Thu 08 Dec 2016

Mr Peacock was delighted to be invited to Stormont on 7th December, on behalf of Brackenagh West PS, to attend a reception hosted by the Education Minister. The event was for those schools that had achieved the very highest outcome for 'overall effectiveness' in school inspections over the past two years.

It was great to have the continued hard work of the staff and pupils recognised in this very special way, and we can be justifiably proud of this fantastic achievement.
